Ed’s Record as a State Senator:
With Healthcare
- Achieved affordable health care for all Vermonters by helping pass the Health Care Reform Bill in the 2006 legislative session
- Achieved a bill of rights for hospital patients in the 2007 legislative session
- Strengthened the 2006 Health Care Affordability Act with corrections and
clarifications as well as a mandate to encourage enrollment in the 2007
legislative session
- Achieved health care procedure quality standards across the state relating to
cost control in the 2009 legislative session
With Consumer Protections
- Achieved healthier and cleaner public places by helping pass the Prohibition
of Smoking in All Public Places bill in the 2005 legislative session
- Provided increased access to public funds for needy families in transition out
of poverty through the Moving Families out of Poverty bill in the 2007
legislative session
- Increased the effectiveness of the Vermont Sexual Abuse Response system
through the Sexual Violence Act bill in the 2009 legislative session
- Succeeded in the removal of toxic chemicals that contribute to early
childhood development issues as well as increased cancer rates for
firefighters from the home through the Brominated Flame Retardants bill in
the 2009 legislative session
- Guaranteed equal rights to all Vermonters regarding marriage with the
passing of the Civil Marriage bill in the 2009 legislative session
With More Efficient & Responsible Government
- Fought for and achieved evaluation of more effective government practices in
each budget
- Consistent use and exploration of alternative taxes to keep the burden spread
fairly
- Maximized health care and technology stimulus dollars recieved from the
federal government in the 2009 legislative session
With the Enviornment
- Increased agricultural water quality, agricultural economic development, and
more efficient public land use throughs bills in the 2005 legislative session
- Achieved greater stormwater control and regulation through the Stormwater
Management bill in the 2007 legislative session
- Succeeded in the protection of vital wetlands cherished by Vermonters
through the Wetlands Protection bill in the 2009 legislative session
